Gwen Sebastian talks new single, Blake Shelton, Miranda Lambert (Includes interview)

On her latest single, “Throw It Back,” she said, “We initially released it to SiriusXM, as an exclusive to them. It started doing well, so I wanted to then go ahead and release it to radio, and I did that in the last couple of weeks,” she said.

Sebastian added, “We had fun. It wrote it with Jenee Fleenor and Rebecca Lynn Howard, who are great friends of mine. We really all get along well writing music. It is just a good trio, and it works. There aren’t a lot of good party songs for girls, especially in country music. A lot of the guys have their fun, drinking songs, but the girls needed one too, so that’s what we came up with. It’s a song that you can have a drink to, and hopefully have a good time.”

She played Madison Square Garden in New York City, with Miranda Lambert on March 28. “That was a really big deal. I was so proud of Miranda, since she took that stage and owned it, and left her heart out on it. That’s exactly what the people wanted and she gave it to them. It’s always a privilege to be out on that stage,” Sebastian said.

Last year, Shelton’s duet “My Eyes,” with Sebastian catapulted to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Country Airplay charts, as well as the Canadian country charts.

Sebastian performed “Sangria” with Blake Shelton at the Academy of Country Music (ACM) awards in Dallas, Texas, last week. “I love that song. It is so good, cool and vibey. We had a good time that night and we sang in front of a lot of people. That’s the biggest live audience for an award show ever, so it was a little scary to get up there and sing for all those people. Of course, Blake knocked it out of the park, and he was a great host with Luke Bryan,” she said.

She co-penned country singer SaraBeth’s new single “I’m Sick of It,” which she dubbed as a fun song to write. “I don’t even know why we were so mad that day when we wrote it,” she said with a sweet laugh. “It was fun. I love SaraBeth. She is a really great person and she is definitely making her mark in country music. We need more females and I am happy to support her, and see that she is doing really well.”

In May, Sebastian will be going in the studio to record more songs, and she hopes to have an EP out in the summer, where she will be doing her own solo shows and touring with Shelton and Lambert.
