Gryffin talks Electric Zoo, career, Florence Welch and Lorde (Includes interview)

“It was awesome. This was my first time doing Electric Zoo,” he said. “It felt really good to be here, and it was a fun crowd tonight. I had a great time.”

On his plans for the future, Gryffin said, “I am working on an album right now. I am hard at work at that and trying to put it all together. I’m working really hard at it.”

Each day, Gryffin is motivated by his ambition to be the best artist that he can be. “I want to get better with the shows and with the music, and improve as an artist,” he said. “That’s my No. 1 goal.”

He listed Florence Welch and Lorde as his dream female duet choices. For his fans, he said, “Thank you for all the support, and I hope you stick around and enjoy the music.”

Gryffin would have been an electrical engineer as his alternate career choice. “I studied engineering in college, and I was going to do that until the music took off,” he said.

Digital transformation of the music business

On the impact of technology on the music business, Gryffin said, “It is crazy. The days of buying albums in stores are pretty much gone in the United States. It is all about the digital sales. At the same time, streaming is doing really well, and music has been able to figure out the technical aspect of it with the piracy issues. It has been able to evolve, so it is a different world now. It is an exciting time for musicians as well.”

Gryffin shared that he uses technology all the time, including Voice Memos, and he makes all of his music on his computer. “I can send project files and I can share them in the Cloud on different apps like Splice,” he said. “It is crazy, but an awesome, exciting time.”

For aspiring producers and DJs, Gryffin said, “Don’t be afraid to put your music out in the world. Getting that kind of feedback (good or bad) is important to develop your sound. Don’t be afraid to send your music to artists. Really try and come up with sounds, production, and melodies that are unique and stand out.”

Gryffin’s latest single “Tie Me Down,” featuring Elley Duhé, is available on iTunes.
