Granger Smith scores gold-certified record with ‘Backroad Song’

This past Friday, Smith accepted the RIAA gold-certified plaque for his chart-topping country single “Backroad Song,” which was one of the Top 10 most-played country singles of 2016, as indicated by Mediabase.

The country star received this accolade in front of a large crowd that gathered at the Riverfront Stage, where he performed during this year’s CMA Music Fest in Nashville. He was joined by representatives from his label, the BBR Music Group, his band and crew.

For Smith, it was always a “childhood dream” to have a No. 1 song on radio, so to have a gold-certified record for his breakthrough single, “Backroad Song,” that was simply the icing on the cake.

In the meantime, his latest radio single “Happens Like That” impacted the airwaves yesterday, where it was most added song at Mediabase with 59 first week stations. It is the lead single from his sophomore album on Wheelhouse Records, which is expected to be released this fall.

Granger Smith chatted with Digital Journal about his new single “Happens Like That.”
