Italian DJ and trance producer Giuseppe Ottaviani chatted about his new album “Horizons (Part 2).”

How did you approach the song selection for “Horizons” [Part 2]?

Well, the entire “Horizons” is an 18 tracks project, and when I released Part 1 only two tracks were properly done for Part 2 so there was not much of a choice in song selection actually I had to turn the demos I previously made into full tracks.

What is your personal favorite song on there?

I really love ‘Under Dark Skies’ it’s the last tune I made for Part 2 and I think it has a very different and catchy melody.

What inspires your music and the songwriting you attach to your productions?

I wrote all the album ideas during the pandemic while Italy was in lockdown and I started searching for singers/songwriters that had no relation with the Trance world so that they would force me to step away from my usual sound and create something completely different.

My inspiration comes from a moment when there are no live shows and dance floors are closed so I tried to write music that would be something that you listen to more than dance to.

Keeping that in mind, I think I have reached my goal and it’s great to see how those mixes also work really well on the dancefloor now that everything is back to normal.

What do your plans for the future include?

The album cycle will be done by the end of this year so starting off in January I’m already planning new remixes, collaborations, and productions in all different musical directions.

This album experience really showed me how beautiful it is to move around different styles and discover different and new sounds so I don’t see myself going back to only one thing or only one specific genre but I see myself continuing to discover and approaching new sounds without losing, of course, my identity.

Were there any moments in your career that helped define you?

I think my live shows are what defines me the most. When I started my career I was told that there were already too many DJs in the business so I had to find a different way to make my shows stand out. So I’ve never really been a DJ but more a producer and a live act.

I have played live since 2001 and upgraded my live setup three times this year. The new Live 3.0 is the best musical experience that people can get but it’s limited to a certain amount of shows per year, and that makes it even more special.

Which artists would you like to collaborate with as your dream collab choices in music?

I’m always been a huge fan of U2 so my dream collaboration would definitely be with Bono of course.

Do you have a favorite motto you live by?

Yes, I do: “Keep Your Dreams Alive.” Dreams are what keep us motivated in our lives so as long as you keep dreaming, you’ll keep fighting to reach your goals. That’s what keeps all of us alive.

What would you like to tell our readers about “Horizons”? (Part 2)… What’s the one thing you want them to get out of it?

I’d love people to zoom out and discover a new sound from me. A producer’s musical journey never follows a straight line but it needs to move around, experiment with new things, and constantly evolve to keep it fresh and exciting. Have a listen to the album and you’ll see what I mean.
