German duo Cosmic Gate talks trance music and new remix album (Includes interview)

On the trance music genre, they said, “It is basically the center of everything we do. It was our hobby, the music we preferred listening to since it actually started with house first in the mid 80s, then acid, techno house and techno, trance developed, so we have been part of it since day one. We basically have it in our blood and DNA. Our whole lives without it would have turned totally different, everything circles around it, our whole lifestyles reflect the music we love. What we love about it, a lot of its styles and especially trance simply touches us more than other music genres, as easy as it is, that’s why we love our jobs so much, our hobby is our profession, nothing can be better than that.”

For Cosmic Gate, the song selection process for their new album Wake Your Mind Sessions 001 was very easy. “We simply put on music that we like, tracks that touch us, music we think that fits the flow of the mix, helps develop it to the point that we say, ‘this is a mix we could imagine playing in a club,’ or that we would like listening to on a road trip,” they said.

Regarding their single “Falling Back,” they said, “It came along like most of our tracks that we work on with a singer. We wrote a demo, and Eric Lumiere came back with his lyrics, we made like one or two changes, but he simply rocked it, his vocals fitted perfectly. Then, we continued with the production as it sounded the way you know it, and on top Mark Sixma made a fantastic remix. Thank you to Eric and Mark.”

On their future plans, they said, “We love what we are doing, so there is more music, more albums planned, we will continue touring and bringing our sound to the clubs and festivals around the globe, simply Cosmic Gate.”

They shared that they love performing in New York City. “We never had a year without at least two gigs in NYC, and 2015 sure won’t be an exception. We love playing the ‘Big Apple,'” they said.

Each day Cosmic Gate is motivated simply by their “love and passion for music.” “We still feel simply blessed that our hobby now for so many years is our profession, so even being exhausted and tired, it never feels like going to work. That’s the best thing that can happen to anyone,” they said.

“We would still be DJ-ing in our bedrooms at home without our fans, so without them we would simply be nothing. Thank you so much for the love and support during the 16 years. We are on this journey together, from our side, we hope there is way more to come,” they said.

Cosmic Gate added, “If you can talk of things to be proud of, maybe its the fact that we are still around and are a name for the people out there, especially with trance not being hot, but we still play in the best clubs all around the world, the biggest festivals on all continents. This is what counts for us. We always stayed true to ourselves, always write Cosmic Gate music, but maintained modern and gained new fans with our music after so many albums. This is what matters to us, gives us power and confidence to do what we do in the future as well.”

For Cosmic Gate, success is very relative and they do not judge their album on pure sales numbers. “We were Top 10 iTunes worldwide with ‘Start To Feel.’ That was absolutely awesome and in the end for us what mattered most is that we were very happy with how the album turned out, giving a statement with it that modern, working club music can be different than the ever same sounding EDM. An EDM album that will objectively sell better than us, we still would see our album as a success, simply as we did what we like. This is what counts the most for us, to be ourselves, to be different but still relevant. We are happy that fans enjoy what we do, realizing we do things differently, that are touched by our music, this is a success to us,” they said.

“Our new mix album Wake Your Mind Sessions 001 will be released on March 13. If you like our DJ sets, do not miss it,” they concluded.
