Her single “With or Without You” was produced by PJ Bianco and Grammy-nominated artist DJ Snake. It reached No. 20 on the Billboard Dance Club Songs Chart. “PJ Blanco had just become involved with producing with DJ Snake and PJ asked me if I would be interested in collaborating. Of course, I was excited and immediately got on a plane to Los Angeles to make ‘With or Without You’,” she said.
Jones shared that her songwriting is inspired by life, love, and God. “Songwriting is one of the most creative spaces to live in. I’m a little like Kanye in a sense that I hear lyrics and stories through pictures. It is truly magical,” she admitted.
On her plans for the future, Jones said, “More music, of course, and touring. I am also developing a skin-care line that I’m excited about. I love beauty and the things that make people feel beautiful. I’ve been just waiting to share some of my beauty secrets for a while so when this opportunity came along I jumped all over it.”
Jones listed Kendricks Lamar, Bruno Mars and Sam Smith as her dream duet choices in music. “Kendrick Lamar is for sure the one to start with,” she said.
For aspiring musicians, she said, “Put love in everything you do. Love will always take you where you are meant to go and do.”
Digital transformation of the music business
On the impact of technology on the music business, she said, “Well, to be honest, I came in the business while streaming was really all there is. Of course, I remember CDs and I’m a bit of an LP collector. There is the purest sound on records that can’t be replaced that I wish we still had in my industry. Seriously, streaming is the most convenient service ever but I also believe streaming makes music kinda ‘here today gone tomorrow’ and that makes me sad.”
She shared that she uses technology in every aspect of her daily routine. “When I hear a melody, I record it on my phone right there. If I want to write some lyrics I have my phone as my notepad. I often hear songs while I’m sleeping and of course my phone is next to me at all times and I sing straight into the phone. I remember my phone over my credit cards and keys when leaving the house,” she said.
