In an announcement made online, Gamestop will again accept PlayStation 2 consoles for trade-in. Stores will be giving $25 in store credit for the console along with the power cable, AV/cable, and one controller. If any of these accessories are missing then the store will only pay $20 for the console.
However the retailer will not be accepting PlayStation 2 games as part of the trade-in.
The announcement has been meet with mixed reactions among gamers who are either unwilling to sell a part of their childhood for $20 or have noted that better offers can be made via online. There is still a strong demand for the console and iconic titles among gamers.
Gamestop first announced in May of 2013 that they will no longer be accepting trade-ins for PlayStation 2 consoles and games starting in June. The policy was made six months before the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One was to be released.
The second system of the Sixth Generation era; PlayStation 2 is the best selling console of all time having sold over 150 million units along with 1.52 billion game titles. The system also has one of the longest life spans having been released in 2000 and discontinued in December 2012.
