Singer-songwriter and actor Gabriel Jayne chatted about his “Rascals” song and music video, as well as his music and songwriting inspirations, and endeavors in acting.

Idea for the ‘Rascals’ song

On his new song and music video for “Rascals,” he said, “I was with a couple of friends this past summer, and we were in the studio trying to make music jamming. Then, I heard this beat and I wanted something super fun for the summer, where you can jump in the car and go dancing with some friends.”

“Then, I remembered that my mom used to call me ‘Alfalfa’ when I was little because I had freckles and my hair would stick up. So, I just wrote this song about ‘Rascals’ and being Alfalfa,” he elaborated.

“My friends and I were like Rascals where we would go through the city on our motorcycles and classic cars,” he admitted.

“We all hung out where we felt peaceful and comfortable together, and we got to express ourselves. We were authentic together and that’s how ‘Rascals’ came about,” he explained.

Music video for ‘Rascals’

Gabriel noted that his twin brother, Keelin, wanted to make a music video for the song. “We scheduled it and we shot it for four days and we made our music video, which was super fun,” he said.

“This was the first video that my twin brother and I ever collaborated on and he is super talented. Again, making the video for “Rascals’ was a great deal of fun,” he added.

Music and songwriting inspirations

On his music and songwriting inspirations, he shared, “I grew up very grateful. My father would play the piano to me when I would sleep with my brother. My dad would play us guitar songs. He would write on the guitar and he would sing us to sleep.”

“My dad would play classical music on the speakers when we would be sleeping, so I grew up with music my whole life. It’s a big part of me,” he noted.

“I was some ADHD crazy kid, who was very hyper with a lot of energy. My dad encouraged me to pick up an instrument, so I went with the drums.

“I picked up drums and just went crazy that got all my energy out,” he said. “It was my therapeutic way of escape. My whole life I was self-taught; I started on drums and then went to singing, songwriting, and I picked up the guitar two years ago and just fell in love with it, especially because I am making art.”

“Now, I’m getting into the rhythm of writing a bunch of new songs, where I am talking about different stories and just getting more vulnerable and comfortable releasing music because I just do it for myself,” he explained.

New music in the works

Gabriel revealed that there is new music in the works. “I just dropped a new song called ‘Fame,’ and it’s really fun. I made it with my friend Harlan, who is also a producer. It was super fun,” he said.

“I’m working on a new song with another producer and it’s really cool,” he hinted. “I’m very happy about it. It’s going to be a really fun song as well.”

Acting career in the digital age

Gabriel also opened up about his rising acting career in the digital age. “Acting is semi-fresh for me,” had admitted. “I’ve been a guest star on some TV shows here and there, and I’ve done a couple of commercials growing up.”

“I’ve really been hitting it hard the last couple of months and I recently did my first vertical drama,” he said. “It was super fun! Also, I just finished my new script, which I will be shooting in a week.”

Speaking of the vertical drama space, he describes it as “pretty cool” platform. “I feel that vertical dramas are really good practice. Everyone is really nice there. I like being busy and trying new things,” he said. “They allow me to step outside of my comfort zone.”

“I am also getting some other auditions for big things too. So, I’m just trying to sharpen my acting muscles,” he added.

Advice for young and aspiring musicians and actors

For young and emerging musicians and actors, he said, “The more vulnerable you are with your art, the more creative it is!”

“So, I would encouraged them to be authentic and to stay themselves. Also, try and look past the judgements that are going to come your way because everyone is going to judge you for stepping out of your comfort zone and being vulnerable. That will pay off in the end,” he elaborated.

“Also, just don’t stop, and keep going. Something I live by is to let it go and make it happen,” he added.

Stage of his life

On the title of the current chapter of his life, Gabriel revealed, “Rising.” “It’s flourishing like a flower and I’m in the full bloom,” he said. “I am just trying to spread peace and love. It’s all about being genuine.”

“I just try to live in the present moment,” he said. “I try to spread confidence and influence people positively.”

Success

Regarding his definition of the word success, Gabriel said, “Success, to me, is family and that can include friends as well.”

“Just having a really stable group of family or friends that can really support me and have me when I fall down. Knowing that they have my back and that I can rely on them and trust them because I am someone who enjoys teamwork,” he elaborated.

“I grew up with a twin all my life, so I was never alone,” he admitted. “I was always with someone, and I like having a team. So, I feel successful in my world when I’m having a family or friends and it’s just an equal exchange of energy.”

Message for his fans and supporters

“I love all of you,” Gabriel told his fans. “Thank you for all the support. Remember to treat your neighbors with respect and spread peace and love.”

Closing thoughts on the new music

For fans and listeners, he stated, “I just want people to get a feeling in their guts or chests. When I make my music and listen to it, I get this feeling in my stomach and my chest, and it just takes me back to a certain memory, good or bad.”

“So, I just hope my music triggers some sort of memories or emotions. When they listen to my music, I hope it just takes them to a certain place,” he concluded.

“Rascals” is available on Apple Music and Spotify.
