“LOVE Somebody” was released on February 2, 2018 on Columbia Records. “We were writing in Los Angeles, and it started with James. He had this unfinished business with his ex-girlfriend, and it’s about carrying on and finding happiness and love again. It morphed over time, and it found a more significant meaning, and we wrestled with that idea, and the landscape of the world around us. It felt like a necessary message to get out,” Brett said.
Brett continued, “For those that heard the song, thank you so much for listening. It’s always a scary and vulnerable moment to release something out to the world. To get a positive reaction is always really exciting for us. So far, it has been a nice return to the game of music. It’s nice to see people being receptive of the song”
On April 15, Frenship will be performing at Bowery Ballroom in New York City. “We are excited. We just revamped our whole live show. We finished the third day of our tour. New York is always fun. It is always a high-energy place. People are surprised by the live energy. People can expect a good time. It is going to be a great show,” Brett said.
The duo is stoked to be on Columbia Records. “It’s never a bad thing to share a record label with Bob Dylan, John Mayer and Barbra Streisand.”
Digital transformation of the music business
On the impact of technology on the music industry, Brett said, “It’s crazy. It feels like its correcting itself a little bit. Streaming is starting to be another lucrative option for artists The music business has turned into more of a singles market, which I am less of a fan of. I like the full story of an album, and we still try to capture that. It’s an interesting change. Some things work, and some things don’t.”
Regarding Frenship’s use of technology in their music routine, Brett said, “We are able to use so many of the sounds that we used on the album, and we don’t have to travel with 24 keyboards. We could use a computer to sample all of those sounds that we used. We use that computer to trigger our keyboards.”
“LOVE Somebody” is available on iTunes.
