Former KORN drummer David Silveria chatted with Digital Journal’s Markos Papadatos about Breaking in a Sequence (BIAS) and his latest endeavors with the band.
“We have been doing some amazing writing,” he said about BIAS. It’s been great, aside from not being able to go out and do shows. The bright side of that is that we have been able to write some great next-level music in the interim period. Had we been on the road, we wouldn’t have written any of this new material,” he explained.
On his daily motivations, he said, “What motivates me to play is what has always motivated me; the love of music and drumming.”
He spoke about his experience being the original drummer of the acclaimed band KORN. “It was literally my childhood dream coming true to be able to play music for people around the world and making a living at it. I still cannot believe that it came true. Without all of the fans that liked our music and supported us, we’d just be a band playing in the garage,” he said.
For young and aspiring musicians, he said, “Have a backup plan and do it strictly for the love, and if it takes off awesome! That love and passion will show in your music if you don’t put too much pressure on yourself.”
On being an artist in the digital age, he said, “It used to be about playing shows and your music; to get noticed. Now it’s only about the likes and streams, which people can buy, which sucks!”
Silveria defined the word success as “being able to ply and make music for a living.”
For his fans and supporters, he said, “I would like to say thank you to every person that has ever been to one of our concerts or purchased a CD. You literally made my childhood dream come true and for that, I am eternally grateful. Thanks.”
