Fedde Le Grand talks ‘Mother’ remix, Calvin Harris, digital age (Includes interview)

He gave Charlie Puth’s “Mother” a rework. “It’s always an honor to be able to work on such great material. When you have a song that is this great, the art is not to destroy the original character and keep it intact, but complement it with a gentle dance treatment,” he said.

This year, Le Grand ranked No. 30 in DJ Magazine’s Top 100 DJs poll. “It’s always great to get recognition and to still get it after 15 years, it makes me proud. But the thing I might be most proud of are my fans who keep supporting me throughout the years.”

On being an artist in the digital age, he said, “I think it’s great. Everything is able to move so fast and you’re always hands-on. Everything you need or want to know is only a few keystrokes away.”

Regarding his plans for the future, he said, “I would say especially on the music/production side, so everyone has to hold on to their seats. I can’t wait to roll out next year.”

When asked if there are any moments in his career that helped define him, he said, “To be honest, I think everyone is shaped by all the little things you go trough. That’s what puts you together. Everything adds to how you make decisions in life and all those things have put you onto the path you’re on.”

On the title of the current chapter of his life, he said, “I would say it’s time to harvest.” “I feel the many things I have learned business-wise and personally have made me a complete individual, so it’s time to put that knowledge to work.”

He listed Bruno Mars and Calvin Harris as his dream collaboration choices. “I would love to do an ultra-funky project with him,” he said. “I think Calvin is on a level of his own as a dance artist and I would love to pick his brain.”

On the impact of streaming services on the business, he said, “That’s a tough one. Mainly, I think they are great. It’s an awesome way to get to know artists that you otherwise would have never come across, but at the same time, I think there has never been a moment in time that so much music has been released daily. Sadly, that makes for some amazing artists to not always get a fighting chance.”

For his fans, he concluded about the rework of Charlie Puth’s “Mother,” “I hope you guys enjoy the track as much as I did working on it. Play it loud and play it proud.”
