Faith Hill makes country history with ‘Breathe’ 16 years ago

Her smash single stayed at the top of the country charts for six weeks, and it subsequently garnered her a Grammy award for “Best Female Country Vocal Performance,” where it bested songs by Lee Ann Womack, Trisha Yearwood, Dolly Parton and Jo Dee Messina. According to The Boot, the album was also named “Best Country Album” at the 2000 Grammy awards.

Hill’s music video for “Breathe” was one that left her fans breathless, as she looks breathtakingly beautiful in the desert, dressed in several elegant evening gowns, as well as satin sheets.

With “Breathe,” Hill was a true trailblazer, since she was able to introduce country music to a brand new generation of fans, similar to country mega-star Shania Twain. Hill’s love ballad was played consistently on New York’s top radio stations such as Z100, as well as 106.7 Lite FM.

While “Breathe” only peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts, its popularity and commercial success were enough to name it the “Single of the Year” for 2000 by Billboard Magazine.
