Evanescence’s Amy Lee talks new kids album ‘Dream Too Much’ (Includes interview)

On the video for “Dream Too Much,” she said, “We were talking about doing an animated video, and my manager honestly inspired me. We took a shot at one of the songs, ‘Bee and Duck,’ as a test, and it was so cool and my son loved it so much that we decided to do the entire project together.”

She collaborated on this project with producer Will Hunt, who should not be confused with her drummer in Evanescence. Each day, Lee is motivated by her two-year-old son, Jack. “That’s a whole new motivation, since I would never get up at 6 a.m. in the morning, ever,” she said, with a laugh. “It’s a whole new kind of love. I am motivated to make music and I get up excited when we are working on a project that I love.”

Lee added, “I am very proud of my family, and the producer Will Hunt, and the whole experience that we’ve had. It would have been easier if I just strummed the guitar or played the piano and sang some songs, but the fact that we made it into an elaborate and cool project, and it is truly genuine just makes me so proud. I am excited to be able to share this side of myself with the world, since it has always been there. This has been part of my roots. It’s really fulfilling, and it is really beautiful to be able to share it with my family. They are all really excited, this week especially.”

“Success is about fulfillment. I feel that I have succeeded, when I have created something that makes me feel really good, and that I have expressed myself, and that is not always easy to do,” she said. “That’s success for me.”

When asked what her personal favorite song is on the new collection, she listed the opening song, “Stand by Me.” “Lately, I really like the first track. My sisters sang on that one, and it’s a really simple, fun song that’s a classic,” Lee said. “I love the way that it turned out. I am really very proud of all the original songs. It was fun to write from such a different place and feel like I was good at it,” she added, with a sweet laugh.

Most impressive about this album is that it features two special lullaby songs, “If You’re a Star” and “Goodnight My Love.” “‘If You’re a Star’ is the lullaby original that we have for him, and we sing that all the time,” she said. “‘Goodnight My Love’ was my lullaby growing up, and they are both on there.”

On November 23, Lee will be performing at The Paramount in Huntington with Evanescence, and being from New York, she is excited for that show. “I am a New Yorker, and I have been telling all my friends to come and finally see us play,” she said. “This is definitely cool. I’m excited that my friends can actually come and see us.”
