European magician Joe Labero talks INFERNO: The Fire Spectacular (Includes interview)

INFERNO: The Fire Spectacular is a production that features Labero alongside London’s hottest fire group, The Fuel Girls. On June 17, they just celebrated their 100th performance at the Paris Theater at the Paris Las Vegas hotel and casino. “That was great. Time flies,” he admitted. “It was very exciting, and I am very happy. The Fuels Girls are very professional in their fire skills and expertise. It was a great match, and we had a good concept. It is a spectacle-based show. That’s for sure.”

European Illusionist Joe Labero was a past recipient of the “Illusionist of the Decade” in 2009, which was awarded by The Merlin Award Society; moreover, he has performed for sold-out stadiums and arenas all over the globe. “I have been working so hard for many years, and it is always good to be honored by your peers. I am very grateful,” he said.

Each day, Labero noted that he is motivated by the adrenaline of the live performance. “You meet the crowd and the audience, and you see their excitement. My show consists of big illusions and it is great to meet new people every night. The audience is always different, and that makes the show very unique. Audience participation is key,” Labero said.

He defined the word success as “Hard work,” and “doing it over and over again.” “If you are passionate and focused enough, success comes your way,” he said. “I have done magic for 35 years now.”

Digital transformation of magic production

On the impact of technology on the live aspect of the magic production, Labero said, “Technology has been growing immensely, ever since I started many years ago. It is amazing what technology can do these days with the effects. I use a lot of fire effects and pyrotechnics. They are mesmerized by the heat and the warmth. Technology enhances the quality, the surprise, the elegance and the rock star feel. It is the whole package.”

Labero also complimented acclaimed juggler Niels Duinker. “Niels is a great guy. Very professional and I always admire what he does. I invited him at my 50th birthday party, and he came and did a live performance, and I still remember that. Niels has the drive, passion and ambition, and he is very focused.”

For his fans, he concluded about the show, “I want them to experience something they have never experienced before. I want them to experience this journey, and I want them to love magic, and immerse them in this world of wizardry.”
