Actress Erin Krakow talks about starring in the new film “Blind Date Book Club” on Hallmark, where she stars opposite Robert Buckley.

‘Blind Date Book Club’

On being a part of “Blind Date Book Club,” she said, “It was a wonderful experience! We shot the movie this past January/February in Gibsons and Langley BC.”

“The weather couldn’t quite decide what it wanted to be so we shot around a giant snowstorm following gorgeous sunny days. The cast and crew were so much fun; we had a lot of laughs. Peter Benson directed this one and he leads with such warmth that our set always felt like a positive place to be,” she explained.

Portraying Meg in the new Hallmark movie

On playing Meg, she said, “I appreciated that Meg had some strange little idiosyncrasies. For example, she couldn’t stand the idea that people might misinterpret her book club for a dating scheme.”

“I also really enjoyed how straight she was with Graham, played by Rob Buckley. She led with honesty and it brought them closer together,” she added.

Working with Robert Buckley

On working with Robert Buckley as her onscreen male love interest, she said, Rob was an absolute delight. Not only is he incredibly prepared, playful, and professional, he is also a really decent person.”

“He is just so kind and thoughtful, present and engaging, modest and approachable. He made every person on that set feel valued. Plus he is a hoot,” she added.

Advice for young and aspiring actors

For young and aspiring actors, she encouraged them to “go to the theatre.”

“Watch television and movies,” she said. “Sign up for an improv class. Take an acting class. Read scripts. Observe people and the world around you with curiosity. Ask questions. Find a mentor or two or three. Be kind.”

The digital age

On being an actress in the digital age, Krakow said, “I feel very grateful to be employed! I don’t take that for granted. I work in an industry where there’s very little job security, and I consider myself lucky to get to do what I love.”

“Regarding social media, I try to embrace it as an additional outlet for creativity. Sure it can be an absolute cesspool, but it’s also another tool for connection. Most of my followers who engage with me are supportive and respectful,” she acknowledged.

Success

On her definition of the word success, she said, “Success is having love in your life: romantic love, platonic love, familial love, the love of/for a pet, self love, and/or love for what you do (or strive to do).”

“I’m sure that list isn’t comprehensive (also ask me this question tomorrow and you might get a different answer), but that is how I feel about success right now,” she explained.

“Also, since I have a lot of love in my life (both giving and receiving) I feel pretty darn successful,” she added.

Closing thoughts on ‘Blind Date Book Club’

Krakow remarked about this new rom-com, “The story is sweet and tender and embodies the coziness of small town coastal living while reading a good book.”

“Something I found interesting about the script is the balance between following your dreams — whatever they may be — but also allowing for the possibility that you are likely already making a beautiful impact on the world,” she concluded.
