Rocker Eric Sage spoke about his new music, and his new show “Play Tennis Like a Rockstar” on the Tennis Channel.

Sage noted that he was a professional tennis player who, at age 23, lost his lifelong sports dream in an automobile accident. He then became a tennis instructor for the stars. “I decided to teach tennis, and then I wanted to be a professional musician, singer, and composer,” he said.

“To do all this, I was teaching tennis eight hours a day, and I would pay for my music studies, and I would study music every night for six hours,” he said. “I was really passionate about helping people in tennis, and I was studying music so I was seeing what my tennis students were going through, and that shifted my perspective a little bit.”

‘Tennis Like a Rockstar’ show

His new show “Tennis Like a Rockstar” on the Tennis Channel features new episodes that go live every Friday.

This show fuses his two worlds of music and tennis, in an effort to live out his dream. “I am excited,” he said. “A lot of hard work has come to fruition. That’s the beauty of it, it combines both worlds, and it is going to be fun.”

New book

Thanks to his drive and discipline, Sage went on to master voice, piano, and guitar, and music composition. He is now an international touring and recording artist. He is also releasing a book titled “Tennis Like A Rockstar.” “This book stays within the brand and it makes sense,” he said. “It was really fascinating to write this book.”

“This has become a motivational book for other people to help them reach their dreams and their goals, and they can accomplish their goals at any age,” he added.

The digital age

On being an artist in the digital age, he said, “It’s interesting. It is great in one aspect because you can get your music out to everybody, and it allows for your voice to be heard; however, everything now is a singles-driven world. I think the digital age is a double-edged sword.”

‘American Way’ single and ‘Kalifornia Kowboy’ album

Sage is releasing his third studio album, “Kalifornia Kowboy,” which features his new single “American Way.” “The song was inspired by all the crazy and negative things that have been going on in the country. People are forgetting that this is the greatest country on earth, and they are not realizing how incredible it is here,” he said.

“I wanted to write a song that was really positive and fun. It reminds us that we need to unite, and it kind of caught on, and it is becoming a sports anthem, where it is played in stadiums around the country,” he elaborated about “American Way.”

“The second song on the album, ‘One More Shot,’ is very tennis-oriented and it has a drinking concept to it,” he said. “The third song ‘Like There’s No Tomorrow’ is a ballad, which allows my voice to be heard.”

“The album is country-rock so it is nice to be able to balance it out with country tunes as well,” he added.

He shared that he is thrilled to be performing “American Way” for a benefit concert in the following week.

Stage of his life

On the title of the current chapter of his life, Sage said, “Here We Go.” “It’s go time,” he admitted. “It has taken many years of hard work to become a musician and to build a career touring around a world, as well as writing a book and doing albums.”

Success

Sage defined the word success as “when a song of his touches and helps people.” “It would be nice to have a No. 1 song or a hit show, but if I could help people, then that’s a success,” he said.
