The theme of The Deplorables is that they will make purgatory great again. Comprised of an award-winning team, Diamond Jesus Production noted that they will begin filming in late spring, and it will be released on digital platforms in the fall and winter.
The series deals with millennial mail-room slacker Michael Cheevers who dies and is sentenced to purgatory to work in its mail-room. That is where he meets his flirtatious manager, a demoted St. Peter, a secretary and the boss’ son. Together they will all work to stop a greedy real estate developer from taking over the purgatory, in order to stop them from going to hell.
The Deplorables is based on the motion picture Stuck in the Middle, which won the award for “Best Comedy Feature” at the Atlantic City Cinefest Film Festival. It stars Stephen Fontana and Penelope Lagos in their award-winning roles. Keith Collins from The Evangelist and Edvin Ortega from Orange is the New Black will also star.
The web series was created by two-time Emmy winner Joseph Pepitone. It will consist of eight episodes, which were written by Pepitoene and his brother, Billy Pepitone. “The Deplorables is going to deal with some new issues that Stuck in the Middle did not and our goal is to make purgatory great again,” Joseph said, prior to adding that “Since no one from purgatory has told me of the conditions there, I think we can do it.”
