“Endlings,” created by writer, director, and executive producer J.J. Johnson, is an intriguing and fascinating digital series on Hulu. Digital Journal has the recap.
The series is set in the distant future, and it centers around four foster children that are cared for by the exceptional guidance of Mr. Leopold (Neil Crone). The kids learn that they are not alone following the disappearance of Tuko, the last elephant on Earth.
The young actors include Kamaia Fairburn (Julia), Edison Grant (Johnny), Michela Luci (Tabby), and Cale Ferrin (Finn), all of which are delightful in their roles. Nigerian actress Oyin Oladejo soars in the role of animal activist, Dr. Abiona Maina, Tuko’s caretaker.
Lisa Ryder is convincing as the villainous Agent Tresa Hewes. Jayne Eastwood is noteworthy as Sharyn, the social worker. The inclusion of “Ling” the alien is a real treat. It is neat to follow all of the characters’ adventures as they aim to help the “endlings.”
Neil Crone earned a 2021 Daytime Emmy nomination for “Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Daytime Fiction Program” for his remarkable portrayal of Mr. Leopold, who is the heart and soul of this series.
Without giving too much away, this is a series that is worth experiencing and binge-watching firsthand.
The Verdict
Overall, “Endlings” is a compelling, beautiful, and heartfelt series on Hulu that is ideal for the entire family. It is recommended for fans of sci-fi, and it encompasses elements of drama, comedy, and family. The acting performances by the entire cast are memorable, and compliments to showrunner J.J. Johnson for the well-written script and his impressive character development.
There is something in it for everybody, especially since the themes of family, kindness, and love are conveyed throughout the series, not just for people but for animals as well. “Endlings” garners two thumbs up.
