By 11 p.m., under an hour after the tweet was posted, the tweet attracted an astounding 1.1 million retweets, what some are calling a world record.
The photo became a hit on social media, not only attracting hundreds of thousands of retweets (or re-posts) on Twitter, but also 397,000 “favourite” clicks. Ellen’s Twitter account has accumulated more than 26 million followers.
Known for surprising celebs in her show, Ellen took the tactic to her hosting banter at the Academy Awards, opting to take a “selfie” photo during her live MC duties. She corralled actors Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper, Kevin Spacey, Meryl Streep, Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, Jared Leto, Lupita Nyong’o, and Lupita’s brother.
They all crowd into the Samsung phone’s frame, as Cooper holds his arm out to snap the pic of the smiling celebs.
Ellen tweeted the pic at 10:11 p.m. with the caption: If only Bradley’s arm was longer. Best photo ever. #oscars
