Actor and comedian Eli Castro spoke about his new show “Law & DISorder.”
The show will run from September 7 to October 29 at the Pregones/Puerto Rican Traveling Theater in New York.
“Law & DISorder” is the story of how I became a lawyer and ultimately how I left the law to become a comedian Off-Broadway,” he said about this upcoming show.
On his inspirations as an actor and comedian, he said, “I love seeing audiences of all ages at my shows. Entertaining families and having them enjoy an evening of laughter is what drives me to continue to write more shows.”
The digital age
On being an actor and comedian in the digital age, Castro said, “It’s exciting to be an actor and comedian in this age because of the many platforms that now exist to feature your work. You no longer have to sit and hope to be discovered. You can now just upload your work and help the discovery process along.”
“AI is like all other advancements in technology,” he said. “We’ve been here before with digital music and cord cutting.”
“As artists, we simply have to work harder to stay ahead of it, preserving our rights while also using technology to our creative advantage, rather than resisting its advancement,” he elaborated.
Future plans
On his future plans, he shared, “I want my own show on TV or a streaming platform. A show like the many that I do on stage but on TV or a mobile device so that anyone in the world can see it and not just those living in the city where I am performing. A show that entertains families and showcases the Latino community in a positive and empowering way.”
Advice for young and aspiring actors and comedians
For young and aspiring actors and comedians, he encouraged them to “fall in love with the process.” “Fall in love with the work. Be disciplined with social media. Use it as a tool to self-promote and not to compare yourself to the success of others. Work hard, have faith, your time will come,” he said.
Success
Castro defined the word success as “happiness.” “Living in peace and with no regrets. See, as long as you’re pursuing your dreams, you’ll be happy. And in that happiness, success lives,” he said.
Closing thoughts on ‘Law & DISorder’
He concluded about “Law & DISorder,” It’s never too late or too difficult to go after your dream. And that the journey, although arduous and painful at times, is also filled with moments of laughter and joy. And that is the ultimate reward.”
