Interview: Nicolette discusses ‘Drowning’ single, Bruno Mars (Includes interview)

On her new single “Drowning,” she said, “It was an idea that grew from a session I went to. When I showed up I wasn’t in the greatest mood already and I felt like venting about it through music, although I didn’t want to be upset the whole time so I made it more of an uplifting, heartbreak song.”

She is drawn to electro-pop music since she has “an electro-pop type of personality” and it “transitions into her music.” “I love the positive vibes. Life throws curve balls every day and it’s more of an escape from reality,” she said.

Each day, she is motivated primarily by family. “Number one, my family. I won’t just say my management because they do play a huge part in building my career, but there’s no singling out anyone because I think we’re all family. They’re the ones that push me to be better and do better,” she said.

Her biggest musical influences growing up were Beyonce, Michael Jackson, Taylor Swift, Rihanna, Miley Cyrus and Demi Lovato. “Those were the artists I looked up to the most and they influenced me a lot. I would always sing whenever I heard their voices,” she said.

On her future plans, she said, “I’ll be releasing more music soon and my goal is to really just deliver a great project and continue to grow with my music. I know every day is a life-learning experience so I just take one step at a time.”

For aspiring musicians and people that have a certain passion for music, she said, “You can do absolutely anything you put your mind to. I love telling people that because if you love something and if you have a dream, you should go out and chase it. In the end it takes loyalty and dedication to get there.”

She listed Bruno Mars as her dream male collaboration choice. “Bruno is amazing and reminds me of Michael Jackson, but he still has his own image. He’s creative and it would just be an honor to work with him,” she said.

For her fans, she concluded, “I really just hope they enjoy ‘Drowning’ and that if they’re going through any kind of heartbreak right now I hope they know that they can make it through it!”
