Canadian actor Dustin Milligan chatted about his new movie “Operation Taco Gary’s,” which was written Directed by Michael Kvamme. It will be in theaters on Friday, February 27th.

Aside from Milligan, it stars Simon Rex, Brenda Song, Tony Cavalero, Arturo Castro, Doug Jones, and Jason Biggs.

The synopsis is: Two brothers embark on a cross country road trip that quickly devolves when they become involved in a global conspiracy.

On being a part of this new film, Milligan remarked, “Honestly, we shot it almost two years ago, so it has been really exciting that it’s finally getting out there for people to see it.”

“For all of us involved, the script was so strong, and it was a real special project,” he said. “The rest of the cast… Simon, Tony, Brenda, Doug, Arturo are so funny and talented too, and they are all great to work with,” he elaborated.

“It’s really amazing that we are finally able to show people this movie, and in a lot of ways, the thing that we are most proud of is just having a movie that is a smart, unexpectedly smart execution of a lot of very, very dumb jokes,” he explained.

Playing Luke in ‘Operation Taco Gary’s’

On playing his character Luke in “Operation Taco Gary’s,” he stated, “I think Luke is someone who just increasingly gets pushed to his edge and then pushed over that edge only to discover a new edge that he’s getting pushed towards.”

“Luke is like a lid on a boiling pot and then, the lid blows and then it’s back on again,” he noted.

“It was such an amazing and challenging thing because I had to really rein it in and just either react in a very contained way or not react at all to these hilarious things that my co-stars were doing,” he elaborated.

“Also, getting to sit back and watch these amazing performers do what they are so good at was really cool… That’s a gift for anybody,” he added.

Working with Simon Rex, Arturo Castro, and Brenda Song

On working with Simon, Arturo, and Brenda, he said, “Simon is so funny, generous and kind. We got to build that rapport and figure out the brotherly dynamic that we have a play here.”

“Brenda was so kind, funny and energetic in real life,” he said. “I’ve been such a fan of Arturo since ‘Broad City’ and from his show!”

“Arturo was probably the person I was most starstruck by… or the most in awe of from this cast,” he admitted.

Lessons learned from the screenplay

On the lessons learned from this screenplay, he reflected, “Despite being a silly and funny comedy, it does actually have an underlying message in there that perhaps we need to be giving people a bit more grace so that we can see things from other people’s perspectives.”

‘Hot Frosty’ on Netflix

On starring in “Hot Frosty” on Netflix, Milligan said with a sweet laugh, “That was a strange experience, for sure. The reception that it got was surprising to say the least.”

“Getting to work with Lacey Chabert was a joy,” he exclaimed. “Another person that I’ve really looked up to for a long time is our director, Jerry Ciccoritti. He is someone who I worked with on ‘Schitt’s Creek,’ and is just a fantastic and talented guy as well.”

Milligan on Tim Rozon

Milligan had great words about fellow Canadian actor and “Schitt’s Creek” co-star Tim Rozon. “Tim is the man! Tim and I go way back! We worked on something ages ago,” Milligan recalled.

Advice for young and emerging actors

For young and aspiring actors, Milligan said, “I think as much as possible to really pay attention to who you are… you really need to want to act and be in this creative field in general, because it’s very easy to start to change and mold yourself based on what you think you’re supposed to be.”

“I promise you that you are not supposed to be anything other than yourself,” he added.

Success

Regarding his definition of the word success, Milligan said, “Figuring out a way to continue to be yourself.”

Closing thoughts on ‘Operation Taco Gary’s’

For fans and viewers, he expressed about the movie, “Watch ‘Operation Taco Gary’s either in theaters or when it’s streaming!”

“I want people to get a lot of laughs out of it… a lot! Then, I would like them to get another ticket, and go see it again,” Milligan concluded.
