Actor Drake Rodger chatted about starring in “The Winchesters” on The CW. This new show is the prequel to the long-running hit TV series “Supernatural.”
Margaret Mead once said: “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” This quote applies to Drake Rodger.
“I was a fan of the original ‘Supernatural’ series,” Rodger admitted. “I kind of grew up watching it. I started around Season 6, I would binge it on Netflix, and I just kept on watching it.”
‘The Winchesters’
The synopsis is as follows: Before Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean, there were their parents, John and Mary. Told from the perspective of narrator Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles), “The Winchesters” is the epic, untold love story of how John Winchester (Drake Rodger) met Mary Campbell (Meg Donnelly) and put it all on the line to not only save their love but the entire world.
On being a part of this show, Rodger said, “It’s good. We had a ton of fun filming, and I love shooting in New Orleans. I love the cast, the crew, and the story was a lot of fun.”
“I hope viewers enjoy it. I want it to be a show that they can click on and feel all of the emotions, and have fun watching, and I pray that we get a Season 2. I hope to keep making more for them,” he added.
Portraying John Winchester
Rodger is drawn to his character, John, in “The Winchesters” for a specific reason. “I love his complexity with who he wants to be vs. who he is faded to be.”

On working with Meg Donnelly, as his leading lady, he jokingly laughed, “It is the worst.” “No, Meg is freaking awesome. She is incredibly talented, and she is one of the nicest people you will ever meet,” Roger clarified.
“Jensen Ackles is incredible too, he is an open book of resources, and he always wants to be there. He is the cool guy from high school who always stayed cool,” he added.
Motivations
Regarding his daily motivations as an actor, Rodger said, “Honestly, my love for doing acting. First and foremost, I just really enjoy acting, and that’s what keeps me going. If you don’t have a love for it and an enjoyment for it, it is a really hard career to stay in.”
The digital age
On being an actor in the digital age, at a time when streaming and technology are so prevalent, Rodger responded, “It’s a double-edged sword. The type of content you create is a lot different but at the other end of the sword, there is a lot more content out there to be created and a lot opportunity to become an actor and to be successful.”
Career-defining moments
Regarding his career-defining moments, Rodger shared, “Meeting my managers, Peter and Terra, was definitely a career highlight for me. I am forever grateful to them, without them I don’t think I would have ever broken into this industry, and my experiences would have been totally different.”
On the title of the current chapter of his life, Rodger said, “Enjoy the Ride.”
Advice for hopefuls in acting
For young and aspiring actors, Rodger said, “Work hard, be the hardest worker in the room. Don’t put so much pressure on yourself, the only thing that you can control is your talent and authenticity. Learn how to be yourself and understand that if you don’t book the role, it has nothing to do with you.”
Plans for the future
On his future plans and goals, Rodger said, “I hope I can continue working. I would to do a season of ‘The Winchesters’ a year, as well as two movies a year. That would be really cool.”
Dream acting partners
Rodger listed Colin Farrell, Tom Hardy, and Robert Pattison as his dream acting partners. “Any of these greats would be cool choices,” he said.
“On top of this list, I would also love to work with my friends in acting,” he added.
Alternate career choice
If he weren’t an actor, he revealed that he would be “in the military.”

Dream Loud campaign
Rodger noted that he enjoyed being a part of Brad Everett Young’s Dream Loud campaign, which works to help preserve art and music programs in schools. “Being a part of Dream Loud is so awesome. Brad is such a sweetheart, and it was really fun getting to shoot with him. Brad is very creative,” he said.
If he were to have any superpower, Rodger shared that it would be “the power to heal people or telekinesis.” “The power to heal people would be pretty rewarding,” he admitted.
In track and field, he would select the javelin throw as the event of his choice, and he listed freestyle as his favorite stroke in swimming.
Rodger defined success as “fulfillment and happiness” in life. “If it’s anything else, success would be hard to measure,” he said.
For his dedicated fans, Rodger concluded, “Thank you so much, I don’t deserve you, but I am so grateful for everyone who supports anything that I do.”
