The Westminster Coroner’s Court revealed this new information earlier today. O’Riordan’s drowning was due to alcohol intoxication. The Cranberries lead singer was found unresponsive on January 15 in her hotel room in London. She passed away at the age of 46.
The coroner, Shirley Radcliffe, stated that this was a “tragic accident,” and noted that there were no signs of injury or self-harm, as indicated by the post-mortem. She had been found submerged in her hotel bathtub.
The British Authorities had found a champagne bottle, as well as five smaller bottles in her hotel room, along with prescription drugs and “tablets in each container.” Toxicology reports found that her blood was comprised of “therapeutic” amounts of medication, but her blood alcohol level was “four times over the legal limit for driving.”
The Cranberries are best known for their smash hits “Linger,” “Dreams” and “Zombie,” all of which evoked emotion. The band has sold in excess of 40 million albums worldwide. The group released a press statement thanking their fans all over the world for their outpouring of support and warm messages. They also requested for their privacy to be respected during this time.
This past June, the heavy metal band Bad Wolves donated $250,000 to the children of Dolores O’Riordan for the proceeds of their cover and updated version of “Zombie.”
