World-renowned songwriter Diane Warren has a major reason to celebrate. She was recognized with an Honorary Academy Award at the 13th Governors Awards.
The Governors Awards presented Honorary Oscars to Euzhan Palcy, Diane Warren, and Peter Weir, and the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award to Michael J. Fox. The four Oscar statuettes were presented at the Academy’s 13th Governors Awards on Saturday, November 19, 2022, in Los Angeles, California. Cher presented Warren with her Oscar trophy.
This marks the first time that this accolade was given to a songwriter. Throughout her illustrious career in music and entertainment, the acclaimed songwriter has been nominated for the “Best Original Song” Oscar 13 times.
“I’ve waited 34 years to say this: I would like to thank the Academy,” Warren remarked in her acceptance speech. “Mom, I finally found a man. I know you wanted him to be a nice Jewish boy, but it’s really hard to tell,” Warren added jokingly.
