Microsoft announced it will release the next chapter in the Halo saga in fall 2009 for the Xbox 360. Halo 3: Recon stars a new hero in the first-person shooter video game and serves as a prequel to Halo’s epic storyline.
Digital Journal – Good news for Halo fans: at the Tokyo Game Show 2008, Microsoft revealed details about Halo 3: Recon, a new chapter in the legendary video game franchise. Developed by Bungie Studios, the upcoming Halo game will not feature the Spartan soldier Master Chief, but instead introduce a new hero to gamers.
The game is slated to hit store shelves in fall 2009.
The new main character is known as Hell Jumper, a member of special forces ODST (Orbital Drop Shock Trooper). The trailer below – which doesn’t display any in-game footage – shows a crash-landed pod, and the protagonist wandering around a ravaged city. There are some quick cuts of new enemies Hell Jumper will inevitably fight, and they resemble werewolves decked out in army gear.
The Halo franchise is a cash cow for Microsoft and Bungie. Halo 3 amassed more than $300 million in sales in its first week with worldwide sales of 8 million. Hollywood observers also blamed Halo 3 for stealing fans away from movie theatres in October 2007.
