Actor Derek Dixon chatted with Digital Journal’s Markos Papadatos about being a part of Tyler Perry’s “The Oval” on BET.
He plays the role of Dale on the hit TV series “The Oval” on BET. “I like Dale’s heart, he has a good heart,” he said about his character. “There are a lot of interesting characters on the show that made questionable decisions, but Dale so far is a good guy. He seems to be trying to be a good person. He is also kind of feisty, he has a little fight in him too. He has self-respect, he stands his ground, and fights back a little bit.”
Dixon had great words about working with Brad Benedict, who plays the sadistic Secret Service Agent Kyle Flint on the show. “Brad is awesome,” he said. “I was the new guy on set and he made me feel comfortable right away. He was very welcoming and we had chemistry right away. I was blessed to be working with such a good actor as Brad.”
He also complimented Bill Barrett, who plays Max Carter on “The Oval.” “Bill is a great guy. We are actual friends,” he said. “It is nice to have someone who has been on the show before and we can bond over that.”
On his daily motivations as an actor, he said, “I want to be better than I was on the previous day. I try to be the best that I can be and create new moments. I try to live in the character, and that’s a great feeling. Each day, I try to be better than the last day.”
For young and aspiring actors, he said, “Just keep trying. If you really love it, keep trying because there is a lot of rejection and you can’t take it too personally. If you believe that this is what you want to do, then keep trying. If this is your dream, then you can’t give up. Also, take acting classes.”
Regarding the title of the current chapter of his life, he said, “Growth.”
He defined the word success as “fulfillment” and “being happy with where you are and how much you’ve worked.” “Also, being happy with your job and your life,” he said.
For his fans and supporters, he concluded about the upcoming episodes of “The Oval,” “It gets crazier than the first half. There are some shocking moments coming up. It’s a wild ride, and it’s entertaining, and it keeps you on your toes. It will be an exciting rest of the season.”
