Their collaboration peaked at the top of the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts on April 11, 1981. It was featured in the Clint Eastwood film, Any Which Way You Can, and it ranked as the sixth greatest duet in country history on CMT’s 100 Greatest Duets of all-time episode. During that taping, country singer Blake Shelton performed the tune with Miranda Lambert, as they paid tribute to Frizzell and West, while they were both in the audience.
“You’re The Reason God Made Oklahoma” was honored as “Song of the Year” by the Academy of Country Music (ACM) in 1982, where Frizzell accepted the award with iconic country songstress Dottie West, where Dottie accepted it on behalf of her absent daughter, Shelly. They were also named “Vocal Duo of the Year” in 1982.
Ever since, it has also been performed by Keith Urban and Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush from Sugarland in their live shows; moreover, Carrie Underwood sang a verse of “You’re The Reason God Made Oklahoma” at the Oklahoma Centennial Spectacular.
