Singer-songwriter and actor David Cook released his latest EP The Looking Glass, which is quite powerful. Digital Journal has the scoop.

This marks his first new music since his Chromance EP. The Looking Glass opens on a harking note with the heavy-sounding “Champion,” which instantly lures listeners in this six-track collection. He maintains great control over his powerhouse voice during this tune, and it is followed by the midtempo “Reds Turn Blue” and the stirring “Strange World,” which deserves to be enjoyed for its honesty and authenticity.

In “Reds Turn Blue,” Cook is candid about his anxiety disorder, and he shares it with the musical world in a raw and unflinching fashion.

After the infectious “Make a Move,” it immediately breaks into the spitfire ballad “Fire,” whose vivid lyrics are pure poetry, and it closes on a haunting note with “Going Back,” where he leaves his fans yearning for more. This closing tune is a bold reality check on the pandemic.

The subject matter on this project is very timely and relevant, especially with what the world is going through these days. It is evident that his new music and sounds are going in a refreshing direction.

The Verdict

Overall, David Cook delights with his newest EP, The Looking Glass. It underscores such values as hope and courage. In particular, he deserves to be commended for writing a song (“Reds Turn Blue”) about his personal battle with anxiety. Listeners will be drenched in a wide spectrum of raw emotions. Every song on this musical effort has its own identity, and it stands out melodically, lyrically, and vocally. It garners an A rating. Well done.
