Actor David A. Gregory (“One Life to Live” fame) chatted about “Uncoupled” on Netflix.
‘Uncoupled’
Newly single, forgot how to mingle. Neil Patrick Harris stars in “Uncoupled,” which premieres on July 29 on Netflix. “‘Uncoupled’ was great. I was just in one episode. Since the cast and I were all isolated, we started to bond,” he admitted.
“I hadn’t been to a premiere in a long time. My episode was the seventh episode but we filmed it last since it was filmed at a ski resort. They were trying to get the on-location scenes shot last. It was nice to revisit those relationships at the premiere and see people that I hadn’t seen in a while,” he elaborated.
“I saw Gilles Marini’s episodes at the premiere and he is fantastic, he was so good in it,” he said, praising Gilles Marini.
For his fans, he said about “Uncoupled,” “I think it’s an important show. I don’t think anyone has seen a show like this, and certainly haven’t seen Neil Patrick Harris play anything like this. Having seen the first three episodes, they are funny but also heartbreaking, and I didn’t expect that. It doesn’t shy away from the sad parts and Neil is so good in it. I am grateful to be a part of it, and I am honored that the producers chose me.”
“This series feels more inclusive than a lot of things that I have been a part of,” he said. “Everyone was so kind. I felt welcomed, needed, and wanted by the cast and the crew. I felt like I belonged there, and they were all so lovely. It is easy to forget your humanity and this show remembers it, so I sure hope people enjoy it.”
‘Mélange’
He also enjoyed being a part of the series “Mélange,” which was written by Tom D’Angora. “We shot that in 2017 but they didn’t release it until 2020,” he said. “We had a good time. It was nice to have all of those people in the same room, that was really cool.”
‘The Hobby Horse Kid’
Gregory shared that his original screenplay “The Hobby Horse Kid” is doing really well. “I’ve shown that script to people and I have gotten work from it,” he said. “It is still the most decorated script that I have.”
On the title of the current chapter of his life, Gregory said with a sweet laugh, “Everything is in flux.” “I have this play that I have been working on for the last 10 years, and I have never believed in something more in my life,” he said. “We are going to do a workshop in late August and we will do a full production here in New York sometime in the upcoming season. I am thrilled to be back doing it.”
Eric Nelsen
Gregory had great words about actor Eric Nelsen. “Eric and I did a movie 10 years ago that he and his wife produced. I am so happy for him and ‘1883,’ that’s killer for him,” he said. “Eric works so hard and he does so much: he is a producer as well. Nobody hustles like Eric Nelsen. I’m a big western fan so I loved that he was in ‘1883’.”
If he were to have any superpower, it would be “to heal people.” “That would certainly change all of the circumstances in my life,” he said. “Think about how much that would change humanity.”
His favorite motto to live by is the following: “If the phone doesn’t ring, it’s me” quoting the classic tune by Jimmy Buffett. “I have been carrying that with me and it has been really helpful,” he said. “It’s not a motto to live by but it’s from a phrase that has been helping me through the tougher times,” he explained especially since his father has been battling Alzheimer’s disease.
Gregory’s favorite movie is “Rear Window” starring James Stewart and Grace Kelly.
He and his wife, actress Jennifer Noble, enjoy binge-watching the comedic series “New Girl.”
Gregory defined the word success as “loving what you do so much that you are willing to do it for free, but you are so good at it that people are going to pay you to do it.”
