As part of Queen Elizabeth’s Birthday Honours list, Lynn was honored for her services to charity and entertainment. Most impressive is that Lynn is 99 years old, and she has been known as the “Forces Sweetheart.”
One of Lynn’s most popular songs, “The White Cliffs Of Dover,” was included in a list of the Queen’s favorite pieces of music. According to an article in BBC, Lynn stated that she “never expected” this honor, and it was indeed a great honor for her to receive it.
Back in 1975, Lynn was made a Dame Commander, and she never expected to receive anything else from Her Majesty. Her signature song was “We’ll Meet Again.” In addition, in 1978, Lynn was given the “Freedom of the City of London.”
When she retired from music, Lynn raised her daughter, Virginia, in Sussex, and she was still as popular and in demand worldwide. Ever since, she was selective with the work she would do. If it was work that she enjoyed, she would take it, otherwise if it was too far or took her away from home, she wouldn’t.
