Dame Helen Mirren earns 2015 Tony nomination for ‘The Audience’

The play was written by Peter Morgan and directed by Stephen Daldry. Mirren’s theatrical performance as Queen Elizabeth II was well-received by Digital Journal, which dubbed it as “magnificent.”

The Audience deals with the sixty-year reign of Elizabeth II and the twelve prime ministers throughout her tenure.

Mirren is nominated among such actresses as Geneva Carr for Hand to God, Elisabeth Moss for The Heidi Chronicles, Carey Mulligan for Skylight and Ruth Wilson for Constellations.

She had previously won the Academy Award in 2006 for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II in the feature film The Queen, which was also written by acclaimed screenwriter and playwright Peter Morgan.
