Dale Ann Bradley talks new album, Kentucky Music Hall of Fame (Includes interview)

A perennial contender and five-time winner, Dale Ann Bradley has been nominated for yet another “Female Vocalist of the Year” award by the IBMA. “I was happy to just be in there. You never know, and it’s just good that people relate to your music,” she said. Joining her in this prestigious category, are three new first-time female artist nominees. “It’s good to see that there are more gals picking and singing, and our kind of music is carried right on.”

She is thrilled with the fact that her all-girl bluegrass group, Sister Sadie, has been nominated for “Emerging Artist of the Year” for the second time.

Most recently, Bradley was announced as a future inductee of the Kentucky Music Hall of Fame, Class of 2018. “That is something that I don’t know what to say about it. I’m just so grateful for that. I really am. I can’t even say how much it means to me,” she said. “There are so many great artists from Kentucky, that have contributed in so many styles of music. I sure appreciate being in there, that’s for sure.”

Regarding her self-titled new album, Bradley said, “Well, it was basically, a song ‘Southern Memories’ that they released as a single. Then, Donna Sullivan contributed to that song as well. We waited for so many years to record that. That was from my early teens. It was melancholy and bittersweet when we put it all together. I had a lot of these songs for a long time, and wanted to record them. Those were the ones that came to the forefront.”

This marked her second time producing an album by herself. “I am always nervous, but all you can do, is put yourself on the line and express yourself to the best of your ability, and put your love for everybody in it, and hopefully, people can relate to it, and enjoy what you’ve done,” she said.

In addition, her new album features a duet with Grammy winner and Country Hall of Famer Vince Gill, entitled “I Think I’ll Just Go Away,” where they pay homage to the Stanley Brothers.
