Episode nine of Cute High Earth Defense Club LOVE!, titled “Love is Stronger Than Pride,” is currently streaming on Crunchyroll and FUNimation for paid subscribers. Free subscribers can watch this same episode six days from now on March 10th.
The obvious focus is on the Conquest Club, the anime’s antagonists because the members have constantly failed to the members of the titular Earth Defense Club. It is obvious that Kinshiro and Akoya are having a disagreement with each other.
I was surprised that Thunder has a limited number of needles.
Makuwa Uriya, a random student at Binan Academy, is chosen to be the monster of the weak because the students are talking about him. That is the first dead giveaway, but the second dead giveaway is the fact that he stands out by having naturally dark green hair.
I laughed as this ultimately leads a conversation between the Earth Defense Club members.
It is obvious that Yufuin and Atsushi are best friends, however, but they are polar opposites of each other because the former is studious and the latter is a slacker. This also extends to Io and Ryuu, respectively, a money-driven person and a womanizer.
I ultimately want to know is how they ended being friends with Yumoto in the first place. It was weird and shocking that Yumoto decided to climb into the Earth Defense Club room through the window when he could have taken the stairs.
Yumoto is out looking for Wombat, who is missing, but the club members effectively flush him out by saying that he stinks. I laughed when Wombat fell for the bait and angrily exposed himself in time for Yumoto to catch him before cuddling him.
It got funnier when Wombat pointed out to Mr. Tawarayama, his host body, going through the first stages of rigor.
I loved Yufuin’s blunt comment towards Yumoto as it cracked me up because of the valid point that he made. Yufuin is right that Yumoto pays more attention to Wombat and does not give a s—t about Mr. Tawarayama.
The really f—ked part, still incredibly funny, is that the club members are acting nonchalant about the situation. They have not shown any signs of concern or horror at Mr. Tawarayama’s body let alone the condition it is in.
I laughed when Uriya confronted the group in his battle form, a humanoid musk melon.
I was expecting a fight, but cracked up in laughter when I was surprised by the random talk about melons. The educational fact about melons, classified as vegetables instead of fruit, caught me off guard.
I just love the random education lessons inserted in the anime let alone this episode.
Nobody else besides Ryou, who is reading about melons on the phone, acted like they gave a f—k about melons except for Yumoto. I laugh at the fact that Yumoto is the token airhead of the group and is amazed at the basic information that he could look online or read in a book.
The bathhouse scene was funny when the Earth Defense Club members anticipated that they were being lured into a trap and decide not to show up at Mount Binan. I loved that they find ways to shirk their duties by pure logic like travel costs and other expenses. It got funny when everybody looked at Io because they know he is the only member of the group who is loaded with cash.
The club members and thrown a very f—ked curve ball, but in a hilarious figurative sense, as members of the press club rose up from the bath. I have to ask, why are they hiding in the bath in the first place?
Personally, it seems suspect and I am led to believe that they are hiding in the closet.
I could only go “OMFG” when Kinosaki, the press club’s president, revealed to the Earth Defense Club members that they became Internet sensations after videos of their fights were posted online. This is perhaps one of the worst ways to get famous if you are a homophobic straight guy.
It does not surprise me that they sold their dignity to make a lot of cash as cosplay models for the press club.
They eventually confront the melon monster and solve his riddles by looking on the Internet. I guess this is one part of the episode that cracks me up the most because the melon is being archaic and cannot compare to what the Internet provides.
Watching the melon monster break down in disbelief was a funny sight to see.
