Crystal Gayle invited to become member of the Grand Ole Opry

Underwood subsequently surprised Gayle by inviting her to become an official member of the Grand Ole Opry. The induction will formally take place next year by her sister, country queen Loretta Lynn.

This is quite nostalgic for Gayle, especially since she made her debut at the Grand Ole Opry almost 50 years ago, when she filled in for Loretta Lynn.

Throughout her career in country music, Gayle was named “Top Female Vocalist” by the Academy of Country Music (ACM) three times in 1976, 1977 and 1979 respectively, as well as “Female Vocalist of the Year” by the Country Music Association (CMA) in 1977 and 1978. Similar to Lynn, Gayle has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
