Crystal Gayle celebrates 40-year anniversary of signature song

Particularly impressive about “Don’t It Make My Brown Eyes Blue” was that it was recorded in its first take, and released as a single on June 24, 1977. Four decades later, Gayle celebrated a special milestone anniversary with that country classic. That song was a crowd pleaser when she perform it live at Adelphi University’s Performing Arts Center on May 13.

Gayle noted in a press statement that she did not re-sing the original recording; instead, it fell into place with Pig Robbins’ piano work. “It was magic in the studio that day,” she recalled.

“Don’t It Make My Brown Eyes Blue” garnered Gayle a Grammy award for “Best Female Country Vocal Performance.” She was subsequently named “Female Vocalist of the Year” by the Country Music Association (CMA) in 1977 and 1978, and the Academy of Country Music (ACM) honored her with the same prestigious award in 1976, 1977 and 1979 respectively.

The songstress is in the studio putting the finishing touches on a new album that will include some of her favorite classic country songs of all time.

In addition, Gayle is extending her 2017 tour. To learn more about Grand Ole Opry star Crystal Gayle and her forthcoming tour dates, check out her official website.
