Internationally-recognized magic megastar Criss Angel chatted about his new show “Magic With the Stars,” which airs on The CW.
23-time Olympic gold medalist swimmer Michael Phelps once said: “If you want to be the best, you have to do things that other people aren’t willing to do.” An individual that embodies this wise quotation by Michael Phelps is Criss Angel.
In his new reality competition, the judges include creator Criss Angel, Emmy winner Loni Love, and master magician Lane Burton. It premiered on Saturday, October 22nd on The CW; moreover, it is hosted by comedian and actor Eddie Griffin, and it is filmed at the Criss Angel Theater at Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino Las Vegas.
“I created this show during the COVID pandemic because I wanted to create something that would be light, loving, and positive. I wanted it to be something that would inspire viewers personally and professionally after going through the craziness of the pandemic,” Angel said.
On having Loni and Lance on the judging panel, Angel remarked, “It feels amazing. I have been a fan of Lance since the 1980s, and he was a tremendous inspiration in my career. Loni is hilarious and insanely talented as is our host, a true comedian’s comedian Eddie Griffen. I’m so honored to call them all my ‘friends’.”
In each episode, two celebrities train with Criss Angel and learn his award-winning, revolutionary magic to compete and create a series of mind-blowing magic performances. The celebrity competitors are tasked with mastering three major categories of magic which they perform in front of a panel of three judges. In each episode, the highest-scoring celebrity will win the prestigious “Golden Wand.”
The celebrity competitors include Cynthia Bailey (“The Real Housewives of Atlanta”), Brec Bassinger (“DC’s Stargirl”), Michael Ian Black (“Wet Hot American Summer”), Corbin Bleu (“High School Musical”), Miles Brown (“Black-ish”), Maksim Chmerkovskiy (“Dancing With the Stars”), Randy Couture (four-time UFC champion), Vernon Davis (NFL Super Bowl champion), Flavor Flav (Rock and Roll Hall of Famer), Debbie Gibson (multi-platinum selling singer-songwriter), Ginuwine (multi-platinum selling R&B singer), Lolo Jones (Olympian and 3x World Champion), Frank Mir (two-time UFC champion), Frankie Muniz (“Malcolm in the Middle”), Omarion (Grammy-nominated R&B singer), Donny Osmond (“Donny & Marie”), Jeff Timmons (98 Degrees), Matt Walsh (“Veep”), and Johnny Weir (Olympic figure skater) and Tara Lipinski (Olympic figure skating gold medalist).
When asked about his proudest professional moments thus far with “Magic With the Stars,” Angel responded, “It is so hard to pick one.” “These stars really have taken my material very seriously, and I’m very proud of how they executed it and presented it in such a short time,” Angel explained.
“I think the series overall has huge production value, it’s completely unique from any other show and is entertainingly inspiring,” he added.
On his plans for the future, Angel said, “To get some rest.” “I have been working around the clock on ‘Magic With the Stars’ while performing ‘Mindfreak’ from Wednesdays to Sundays at 7 p.m. at Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. I hope to just perform ‘Mindfreak’ for 2023 and get back to training and resting which is long overdue,” he elaborated.
For his viewers and fans, Angel hopes they get the following message out of “Magic With the Stars.” “Anything is possible in life,” he admitted. “No matter what obstacle is in front of you. ‘Magic With the Stars’ demonstrates that the impossible is possible.”
