Country Music Hall of Famer Bill Anderson talks new autobiography (Includes interview)

It consists of a newly-released audio book, in addition to a bonus acoustic CD with previously unreleased tracks. “It’s an autobiography, and it focuses primarily on the songwriting aspect of my career. I wrote a lot of songs early in my career, and then I quit writing for about 10 years, and then I got back and had a second career as a writer, that was bigger and better than the first one. That’s the gist about what the book is about,” he said.

The veteran country star recorded new song with Brad Paisley this past Friday, which will be featured as a track on Paisley’s forthcoming studio album.

With the 2015 success of Mo Pitney’s “Country,” he is the sole country songwriter to score a Top 40 hit in seven consecutive decades. Most recently, he celebrated his 55th Anniversary as a member of the Grand Ole Opry.

Anderson was the youngest writer to ever be named “Songwriter Of The Year” by BMI at age 23, prior to 21-year-old Taylor Swift.

When asked what motivates him each day, the country crooner said, “I still enjoy what I do. I think as long as you enjoy what you do, it’s not really work. I love it and I feel that I am very blessed to be able to continue to do it, and to have done it for as long as I have.”

On the key to longevity in country music, he said, “I’ve been very fortunate. I’ve been very blessed.” When asked to look back in a rear-view mirror over the last seven decades, he joked, “I see a lot of wrinkles in my face. I see a guy that has been very blessed and had a lot of fun and went to a lot of places that he never dreamed he would go.”

For his fans, he concluded, “I hope they enjoy my book, and I hope they’ll enjoy my story.”
