Colin Blunstone of The Zombies talks Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (Includes interview)

This marks their third career nomination for the coveted Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. “It feels incredibly exciting to be nominated for The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame again. I think any kind of recognition from fellow professionals is the highest form of praise. It’s uplifting and helps to validate all the work we have done over the years,” Blunstone said.

On his plans for the future, Blunstone said, “I’m touring with my solo band in the U.K. in November, and I am also recording a few solo tracks hopefully for a new solo album. Early next year, The Zombies will go to the United States to tour and I’m sure we will also be recording soon too. I like to be busy. It keeps me out of trouble!”

Blunstone acknowledged that each day he is motivated by fear. “The first thing I thought of was ‘fear’ which doesn’t sound very attractive, but most artists are terribly insecure and I am no exception,” he explained.

He revealed that the key to longevity in the music industry is comprised of “talent, practice, stamina and luck.”

Regarding their proudest professional moments, he said, “I’m really proud of the advances the current incarnation of The Zombies have made. We started playing in bars and small clubs in 1999, and have since traveled all over the world playing at some of the biggest festivals and most prestigious venues. I never expected to be touring at this time in my life so it has come as a wonderful surprise to realize how much interest there is in The Zombies repertoire.”

For aspiring singer-songwriters and bands, he said, “Always remember what first excited you about music when you began playing. It’s a tough old game and you will probably find yourself in challenging situations from time to time but you can learn from all experiences, and with a little bit of luck, one day you will be able to return to that first love of music as a successful artist.”

Blustone defined the word success as “achieving some form of fulfillment from one’s artistic endeavors.”

For their dedicated fans, Blustone concluded, “Thank you for all your support and encouragement which motivates and sustains me. Without you there is nothing!”
