His album will be released on February 3 and his single “He Knows” was inspired by the loss of his first wife to cancer. “For me, I wanted to get many things across on this album from my heart, from a fresh perspective. I had an excitement and feel that was fresh, with a clear-cut vision. All of these songs came out naturally and I was passionate about them. They involved years of reflecting so much,” he said.
Regarding “He Knows,” Camp said, “The depth from that song came from what I have been through, and it taught me some things through that. I felt really strong about it.”
Camp is moved by all of the positive and warm feedback that he receives from fans after his shows. “For me, hearing these conversations is what drives me the most. When people are touched from these songs and hearing their stories,” he said.
Another emotional moment was when he wrote his first autobiography, I Still Believe, which was a cathartic process for him, especially since the book is an authentic account of his testimony. “I am very proud of that, and I don’t regret it,” he said.
Throughout his 12-year career in the industry, Camp has sold over four million albums; moreover, he secured 36 chart-topping hits across all formats. In 2004 and 2005, he was honored as the “Male Vocalist of the Year” at the Dove awards.
A Grammy-nominated artist, Camp is out on the “Winter Jam” tour, playing large venues each night. “We are going to continue. We will be playing in South Africa, Brazil and India. We are doing a bunch of festivals and fairs. Expect us at a city somewhere in the United States and around the world,” he said with a sweet laugh.
He listed Taya Smith from Hillsong United as his dream female duet choice in Christian music. “Her voice is amazing, she performs with a lot of heart and she is a legit person,” he said.
For his dedicated fans, he said, “I have amazing fans. Some of them have come to over 30 shows. Thank you for all of your support. I am very grateful, and I encourage them to go deeper in their lives.”
