Singer-songwriter Chloe Stroll chatted about her new single “Hurricane,” being an artist in the digital age, and her desire to someday collaborate with John Legend.

‘Hurricane’ single

On her latest single “Hurricane,” she said, “I recorded ‘Hurricane’ a few days before my husband was competing. He was very cool, calm and collected, but I was a nervous wreck.”

“I wrote this song for anyone who is going through something difficult, an obstacle in their life, and standing by their loved one,” she added.

Music and songwriting inspirations

Regarding her music and songwriting inspirations, she said, “My music and songwriting is very much inspired by my life experiences. Whether it be about my relationship with my husband, a home invasion or a friendship, I am very vulnerable with the music I put out into the world.”

The digital age

On being an artist in the digital age, now with streaming, technology, and social media being so prevalent, she said, “It feels very vulnerable. Everything is quick, whether it’s reviews or opinions, it all just happens right away. You only have three seconds to make an impression before people scroll to the next thing, or change the song, so it makes it difficult.”

“At the same time, I think when used well, social media allows us to tell a better story and gain a better understanding of who the artist is as a person. Same with streaming, we have access to music we would never have heard otherwise, and it has given more artists the chance to put their music out there, so it’s a Catch-22,” she elaborated.

Future plans

On her future plans, she shared, “My plans for the future definitely include a lot more music! I am so grateful that I am able to pursue my passion as a full-time job, and I hope to continue doing that for a long time.”

“My long-term goal is definitely to put out an album, but right now I am just continuing to write and record and put my music out into the world,” she added.

Dream duet choice in music: John Legend

Regarding her dream duet choice in music, she revealed, “John Legend.” “He is probably the one that I would love to do a duet with. I think my core style is very much me at a piano singing love ballads, and he has written and made some of the best ones exactly like that,” she said.

Success

On her definition of the word success, she said, “Success overall is finding true happiness with yourself. Success within music is having one song I have written or recorded change someone else’s day for the better. Making an impact on someone else through music, I couldn’t ask for success more meaningful than that.”

Closing thoughts on ‘Hurricane’

On her new single, she remarked, “‘Hurricane’ is a very intimate track that was written to express emotions of always being there to support those you love, even through some of the toughest times.”

“When people listen to the song, I hope they hear that raw emotion and can connect to the lyrics on a deeper level. Like with all of my music, I hope listeners feel inspired. I always say if my music is able to help even just one person get through their day, that makes everything worth it,” she concluded.
