Cheap Trick discusses ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ soundtrack (Includes interview)

Doritos partnered with Marvel Studios for the upcoming May 5 premiere of “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2,” in an effort to help introduce the world to the highly-anticipated film soundtrack. Zander and Doritos unveiled the soundtrack at special events in New York and Los Angeles, thus encouraging fans to “Rock Out Loud” by belting out one of the soundtrack’s iconic songs at pop-up recording booths. “Who doesn’t like Doritos,” he exclaimed. “I’m here in New York today hanging out with these guys. We’re going to rock out with some music fans and some movie fans. We’re giving everybody a new way to experience the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ soundtrack and Doritos.”

This new soundtrack features their hit single “Surrender.” “Mommy’s alright, Daddy’s alright and Doritos taste good,” he said, with a laugh.

For his fans, Zander said, “This is fantastic. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a project as interesting as this. Plus, it’s on a product that tastes great. In fact, I have a 16-year-old daughter and this is her favorite snack.”

On their plans for the future, he said, “Cheap Trick is in the studio. We just finished another record. It comes out in June, and we are thinking about doing a Christmas album this year.”

Each day, Zander is motivated by the music itself. “Music is a healing force,” he said. “The band really loves what they do, and that’s why we keep going. We are too dumb to quit.”

In April of 2016, Cheap Trick was inducted into the coveted Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. “That went by too fast. Do you think we can get inducted again?” he joked.

He listed Grammy-winning songstress Mariah Carey as his dream female interview in music. “That would be cool,” he said.

Regarding the key to longevity in the music industry, he said, “It’s gotta come down to the music. The music is what keeps it going. The music is the engine that keeps the music industry running.”

He defined the word success as follows: “Waking up in the morning, and having a breakfast every morning, until the day I die.”
