Chatting with Parker Phillips: Singer-songwriter and artist

Singer-songwriter and artist Parker Phillips chatted about his musical influences, latest endeavors, and future plans.

On Thursday, April 3rd, he performed at Joanne Trattoria as part of an “Emerging Artist” showcase along with rising artists Izze Stein and Katerina Athena.

Phillips performed John Legend’s “Again,” For an encore, he sang a duet with Izze Stein, which was also well-received.

Prior to the show, he sat down with this journalist for an in-person interview at Joanne Trattoria in the Upper West Side, which is owned by Joe Germanotta, Lady Gaga’s father.

On performing at Joanne Trattoria, he remarked, “I am overwhelmed a little bit. I’ve been waiting for a small intimate moment like this for a while now. I also love Lady Gaga, so I am onboard for anything that has an attachment to her.”

Music and songwriting inspirations

Regarding his music and songwriting inspirations, Phillips said, “My family inspires my music a lot. I actually wrote my recent single ‘I.C.D.T.T.‘ with my mom, even though she didn’t know she was writing it at the time.”

“I started taking notes with I was talking to her on the phone, and that happened to be one of the key lines in my recent single, so my family inspires me,” he explained.

The digital age

On being a part of the digital age, Phillips said, “I love it but I feel like I have a love and hate relationship with it. It’s a double-edged sword, for sure.”

“I struggle with not wanting to post but knowing that’s what is going to increase my presence and my fan-base,” he said.

Future plans

He hopes to someday with an EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony). “Even though it’s very hard, I’ve been taught to win big,” he said. “I am going to keep putting that out in the universe.”

Dream duet choices in music

He listed John Legend and Beyonce as his dream duet choices in music. “John is a huge inspiration of mine and he is touring this summer. John, if you are reading this, hit me up,” he said.

Advice for young and aspiring artists

For young and emerging artists, he said, “Don’t ever give up, no matter how long it takes. I’ve been at this dream for a while. I moved to New York in 2011, and I’ve had some life-changing opportunities. So, it is important to never give up.”

Success

“Achieving everything that you want to achieve in life but finding a way to pay it forward. I feel like there is always a bigger purpose for everything we do.”

“Finding a way to pay it forward is the real win at the end of the day,” he added.
