Academy Award winner Christine Lahti spoke with members of the media on the red carpet of the 2025 Theatre World Awards, which were held at the Hard Rock Cafe in Manhattan on June 2nd.
Lahti won an Oscar for “Best Short Film, Live Action” in 1996 for “Lieberman in Love” and she was nominated for a “Best Supporting Actress” Oscar in 1985 for “Swing Shift.”
In 1998, she also won the Primetime Emmy Award for “Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series” and the Golden Globe for “Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series — Drama” for playing Kathryn Austin in “Chicago Hope.”

“I am thrilled to be presenting at the Theatre World Awards, especially to Sarah Snook,” Lahti said.
Lahti had won her Theatre World Award back in 1979 for her breakthrough performance in the Off-Broadway production “The Woods,” where she starred opposite Chris Sarandon.
The Theatre World Awards are the oldest awards given for Outstanding Broadway and Off-Broadway breakthrough performances.
The Theatre World Awards are presented annually at the end of the theatre season to six actors and six actresses for their significant, reviewable, debut performances in a Broadway or Off-Broadway production.
Advice for young and aspiring actors and performers
For young and emerging performers, she encouraged them to “study.”
“Study, study, study,” she underscored. “Go to acting class and don’t give up.”
Lahti defines success
Regarding her definition of the word success, Lahti said, “Respect!”
At the 2025 Theatre Awards ceremony, Lahti went on to present the first award of the evening, which went to Sarah Snook for playing 26 different characters in the play “The Picture of Dorian Gray,” which is being performed at the Music Box Theatre in New York.
