Chatting with Olivia Lane: Rising country singer (Includes interview)

On her new single, “You Part 2,” she said, “When I write, I write about my real life, but I also write about my friend’s experiences. This particular song was based on a real winner I dated in college, and we are not together anymore. I wanted to write a song about a break-up from the other side of a break-up. I wanted to write a song that was empowering for women or even men. They can get over it and they are going to be stronger after it.”

She added, “I came up with the music video concept with a couple of friends. I called up one of my friends asking if we could have a house party and shoot a music video while we do it, and it came together very nicely. I thought that was a nice little set-up.”

Lane is signed to Big Spark Music Group, and she co-wrote the song with producer Ilya Toshinskiy and songwriter Danny Myrick. Aside from Toshinskiy and Myrick, the songstress is writing with songwriter Jim Beavers, who has written for Dierks Bentley and Tim McGraw, as well as Catt Gravitt, who has worked with Jake Owen and Jana Kramer.

Her EP Love Thing was profiled as “New & Noteworthy” on iTunes, and its title track was featured on SiriusXM’s “Fresh Female Voices of Country Music.” “It is so wonderful, and it’s a good feeling to know that all your hard work is starting to pay off,” she said.

She was nominated for the coveted Macy’s iHeartRadio Rising Star campaign, and was one of only five emerging country artists to be selected; moreover, she made Country Weekly’s 2015 “Who’s New” list and for its 2015 “Spring Fashion” shoot. “That was another opportunity where radio was stepping out to help independent artists, and I couldn’t have asked for a better outlet. It helped me establish a new level of fans. That was really cool,” she said. “Honestly, in the last few years, I am so proud of how far we’ve come, and I am just so thrilled that people are starting to finally notice. It’s great,” she said.

Lane has served as an opening act for such artists as Wynonna Judd, Frankie Ballard and Randy Houser. In addition, she will be opening up for the iconic southern rock group, The Marshall Tucker Band, this weekend in Michigan. “I love the Marshall Tucker Band’s era of music. I can’t wait to meet them,” she said.

She listed The Eagles and George Strait as her dream collaboration choices. “The Eagles are amazing. I love them,” she said. “George’s voice is so wonderful.”
