Emmy-nominated actress Kimberlin Brown chatted with Digital Journal’s Markos Papadatos about being back on the hit CBS daytime drama “The Bold and The Beautiful” as Sheila Carter.
Playing Sheila Carter on ‘The Bold and The Beautiful’
“It is good to be back playing Sheila, it truly is,” she admitted.
She is drawn to her character, Sheila Carter, for many reasons. “I love the freedom that the show gives me to really create a character with the great dialogue that they give me. I can do no wrong. Sheila pushes the envelope and she can do things that other people can’t. As an actor, when you are given that freedom, it’s a wonderful thing,” she said.
Working with Tanner Novlan
Brown shared that she loves working with actor Tanner Novlan, who plays Dr. John “Finn” Finnegan, her on-screen biological son. “Tanner is adorable. He looks like he really could be my son,” she said with a sweet laugh.
“Tanner has a square jaw just like my son does, and I look forward to what we have coming up. I am hoping that Steffy finally comes to her senses and lets Sheila see her son. Tanner is great to work with,” she said.
Working with Sean Kanan
She had great words about working with Emmy winner Sean Kanan, who portrays Deacon Sharpe. “Sean Kanan is a hoot,” she said. “Sean and I go way back. We know each other for a long time. We’ve attended a lot of functions together over the years but we never had the ability to work together, and now that we do, we are having a great time. We are finding some really neat comedic moments in what we are doing. It’s hard to find comedy in a soap opera, but the two of us are making it work. He’s fun. I love working with Sean [Kanan], I really do.”
“There are some really good scenes coming up,” she foreshadowed.
When asked how she handles being dialogue-heavy, she said, “Well, we have been very dialogue-heavy lately. It’s a lot of memorizing and ever since COVID, a lot of things have changed. Since we are on a limited time schedule, we are doing a lot more scenes, a lot more scripts, and a lot more shows than I’ve ever done when I was on the show before. It’s a good challenge, and Sean and I would sit and run lines together. It makes it easier when you have a scene partner that wants to run lines with you.”
The digital age
On being an actress in the digital age, Brown said, “It’s different. It’s fun, I love the audience response on social media, and how fast it can get to you. The audience is loving what is going on right now. We need to change with the times.”
Advice for hopefuls in acting
For young and aspiring actors, Brown said, “Don’t give up. If this is what you love and what you really want to do, then don’t let anybody tell you that you can’t or that you shouldn’t.”
“Also, just because you’re not getting that job today from a casting director doesn’t mean that you don’t be getting one tomorrow or the day after,” he added.
When asked if there were any moments that helped define her, she responded, “I feel like I am still defining myself. I really do. I change constantly, especially as time changes. There have been a lot of defining moments for my character Sheila, but for Kimberlin herself, I am still working on that.”
On the title of the current chapter of her life, she said, “Rockin’ It.”
Success
Brown defined the word success as “striving to do her best every day.”
For her fans and supporters on “The Bold and The Beautiful,” she said, “God bless you and thank you all since I wouldn’t be where I am today without all of you.”
“We have great scenes coming up across the board, and surprises coming up that will be affecting Sheila, so stay tuned,” she exclaimed.
