Electronic artist Gryffin sat down and chatted after his set at Electric Zoo at Randall’s Island Park in New York.

Electronic artist Gryffin sat down and chatted after his set at Electric Zoo at Randall’s Island Park in New York.

He opened up about being an electronic musician in the digital age, his music and songwriting inspirations, and he furnished his definition of success.

In his live DJ sets, he is able to incorporate piano and guitar instrumentation along with his melodic house music.

On performing at Electric Zoo, he said, “It feels amazing. I love being back in New York City, it’s always a good vibe out here. It was a very fun festival set.”

Gryffin shared that his songwriting and music are “inspired by everything.” “My life experiences, my traveling, and the people that I meet. Honestly, my songwriting is inspired from everywhere,” he said.

The digital age

On being an artist in the digital age, now with streaming, social media, and technology being so prevalent, Gryffin remarked, “It feels good. It’s cool that I can make music off a laptop. The accessibility of making music as an electronic producer is as easy as it has ever been, so in that regard, it is pretty awesome.”

AI on the future of the music business

Gryffin also shared this thoughts on AI (artificial intelligence) on the future of the electronic music industry. “We can talk a long time about that,” he admitted. “I can see that AI has some value in it, but I also think it has a slippery slope to it.”

“I just hope people don’t lose their appreciation for pure creative music, but we will see how it goes. It’s a double-edged sword,” he added.

Stage of his life

On the title of the current chapter of his life, Gryffin revealed, “Fun and Energetic.”

If he were to have any superpower, it would either be “flying” or “teleportation.”

Dream duet choices in music

Gryffin listed Calvin Harris and Disclosure as his dream collaboration choices in music. “Calvin Harris would be cool but I also like the Disclosure guys,” he said.

Success

On his definition of the word success, Gryffin said, “I think success means being professionally fulfilled with what you are doing, and just being happy and proud of the work that you are putting out.”

Gratitude towards his fans

For his fans, he expressed his appreciation. “Thank you to the fans. I love them and appreciate them. I wouldn’t be anywhere in my life without the fans,” he said.
