On September 23, he will be headlining Radio City Music Hall in New York City. “I am looking forward to it,” Wilson said. “You can expect The Beach Boys classics, and good rock and roll, and the Pet Sounds album.”
Wilson added, “Radio City is going to be a great show. I hope on Saturday evening the fans like Pet Sounds as we like doing it.”
The iconic rock star noted that a difference exists when he sings in the studio vs. performing live shows. “Performing live is more fun,” he admitted. “Studio is hard work. Concerts are more fun. They are instant gratification.”
Wilson shared that his plans for the future are to do a “rock and roll album sometime this year.”
Each day, Wilson is motivated by his band members. Regarding the key to longevity in the music industry, he shared that it is about “the harmonies that we do.”
On the impact of technology in the music business, he admitted that “it is not quite as good.” “It is getting here,” he said.
Wilson listed Chuck Berry, Rosemary Clooney, and The Four Freshmen as his greatest musical influences.
For aspiring singer-songwriters, his advice is as follows: “Not to take drugs.” Wilson stated that he stays connected with his fans, each time that he is in the same room as them, during his live shows.
In 1988, Wilson was inducted into the prestigious Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of The Beach Boys. “That was great! It was a great honor for me. I was very proud,” he said. “Yeah!”
