Social media influencer and podcaster Ashley chatted about her upcoming show on February 26 at the Beacon Theatre in New York City.

She opened up about the digital age, and she furnished her advice for young and aspiring podcasters.

Flowers is a New York Times bestselling author, media personality, entrepreneur, and the host of “Crime Junkie,” which was Apple’s No. 1 podcast in 2022.

“I feel extremely lucky that I get to live my dream of helping victims and families through storytelling,” she said.

Motivations

On her daily motivations, she said, “The people at the center of our stories and every listener on the other end. Our work has gone on to make a real difference and it’s easy to get up and go to work every day when you can see the impact you’re having on the world.”

Beacon Theatre show

Her latest podcast reveals the stories behind the playing cards distributed in prisons where law enforcement agencies have replaced the faces traditional playing card decks with images of missing and murdered people. It is their hope that somebody will recognize a case and help them with further information.

In this tour, Flowers will take her audience through all of the twists and turns of the on-the-ground reporting in real time.

She is bringing her new podcast “The Deck Investigates” to the historic Beacon Theatre on February 26. “It’s one part documentary, one part podcast, and one part investigative war room. I promise it’s a one-of-a-kind show where we dig deep into a 1984 cold case,” she said.

“This case is a roller coaster ride but I believe it’s 100 percent solvable,” she said about her forthcoming show in New York, which will involve audience engagement and participation. “I just need their help. I’ll tell them exactly what to do at the show.”

The digital age

On being a podcaster in the digital age, now with streaming and technology being so prevalent, she said with a sweet laugh, “I’m not sure I know anything different.”

“It’s a wild feeling to do something in complete isolation (I record in a small studio by myself) but to know that it’s reaching millions of people,” she acknowledged.

Advice for hopefuls in podcasting

For hopeful that wish to get their foot in the door in the world of podcasting, she encouraged them to “get a good internship.:

“Podcasting is still so new that those of use doing it are figuring it out and paving the path as we go so you’ll learn leaps and bounds more in the field than in a classroom (at least until the industry is more mature),” she explained.

Plans for the future

Flowers shared that her plans for the future include doing “more podcasts, more books and TV.” “I want to keep bringing more high-quality content to people in every medium,” she expressed.

Success

On her definition of the word success, Flowers shared, ” Success means that I made a difference and I can look back and be proud of myself and my team for what we did.”
