Actor Cody Callahan of “Animal Kingdom” chatted with Digital Journal’s Markos Papadatos about his career and being an actor in the digital age.

The late U.S. Army general and former Secretary of State Colin Powell once said: “A dream doesn’t become reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination, and hard work.” Cody Callahan is an actor and individual that epitomizes this wise quotation.

“I had a dream as a kid, I went after it, so every time I step onto a set, that dream is coming true,” he said.

‘Animal Kingdom’

He plays the role of Tommy in “Animal Kingdom.” “‘Animal Kingdom’ was amazing,” he said. “The show is done now, we filmed the sixth and final season and it was just an incredible experience for me, especially working with such a talented cast and crew. This was my first big job so it was just a great learning experience and a great experience overall.”

“They gave me a lot of freedom with my character Tommy and they allowed me to bring myself to that character. Also, being able to work with Jake Weary, he is such a great actor and such a nice guy. I really enjoyed going to work and playing that part, and knowing that I would be working with him,” he said.

“The next season I have a bigger part and I get to do some really cool things, and that was just amazing,” he added.

The digital age

On being an actor in the digital age, he said, “It’s actually a bit more exciting just knowing that there is so much more content out there. It makes me excited for what my next job is going to be. I don’t know what it will be yet, but I am looking out for it. I know it’s out there and I know it’s coming.”

“To me, the digital age means never-ending opportunities,” he added.

Advice for hopefuls that wish to go into acting

For young and aspiring actors, he said, “Treat the job like it’s your craft and train to become a master at it. If you want to be successful, put in the time and the work. Always stay humble and always keep acting and keep practicing.”

Career-defining moments

On his career-defining moments, he said, “Honestly, any time I step on a set of any kind is a dream come true, and that in itself defines my determination and my commitment and my whole life.”

Regarding the title of the current chapter of his life, he said, “Building”

If he were to do any track and field event, he revealed that it would be the 100 meter sprint. “That’s similar to me and to who I am. I just like a burst of energy, and of course, I am in things for the long game, but sprinting was always my thing,” he explained.

Bjoern Kommerell

Callahan had great words about working with master photographer Bjoern Kommerell. “It was so great to work with Bjoern, I worked with him twice, and that speaks for itself. I was blown away the first time so I had to go back. It was definitely easy and it was like working with a master artist: the way he sets everything up and his artistic eye and his creative abilities are immense. It was a true joy,” he said.

Success

He equated the word success as happiness and contentment in life.

Fans

For his fans and supporters, he concluded about “Animal Kingdom”, “Stay tuned because some really cool and exciting things are coming next season.”
